The Memorial Day weekend is here… It’s time to CELEBRATE!

How are you spending your Memorial Day weekend this year? We wanted to share with you what some of our weekend plans include…

It’s been a busy Spring in New York City, so this weekend I am spending time out on Long Island with my family. My mom and dad live on the water so I will visit them and just relax, while enjoying time with my three young children. I might even do a little indulging at my favorite summer thrift shops in Long Beach. Long beach is a picturesque boardwalk community, filled with artsy shops and cafes that have great iced coffee! There are also great beach buys such as sandals. floppy hats and sarongs, from incredible international designers, all along main street. On Sunday night, I have a date with my husband at our favorite Long Island restaurant, Waterzooi.  It’s a cute Belgian bistro in Garden City with great moules frites, and it reminds us of place in Brussels we used to visit when we lived in Europe.

I am excited to get away from the city for the weekend and relax before summer begins. I plan on going out on the boat with my girlfriend to see my family on Long Island. I can’t wait to watch the air show and of course get in some sunbathing!

I have to agree Spring has defiantly been busy. Moving here in January was crazy but I finally feel like NYC is home. I am excited to be spending my first Memorial Day in the city! I will be going to a BBQ with old neighbors in New Jersey over the weekend as a nice little get away from the hype of the city. Then on Monday, I plan on being in Manhattan and exploring everything it has to offer this holiday with some friends from high school. I am excited to experience the parades, food festivals, and of course the fun rooftop hangouts, all pending on if weather cooperates (fingers crossed, because I want to have FUN).

Be safe & have fun.

Lots of love,

Kendall

So I wanted to share a cool little story…

My Grandparents started a small funeral home in 1952 and built it from the ground up to become one of the largest and most trusted funeral homes in the state of Oklahoma.

On Memorial Day, in 1972 a widow brought her deceased husband’s flag to them, and said she had no where to fly it in his honor. So they agreed to put it up at Floral Haven. That day, tradition was born and now you can see over 3000 Veteran flags flying there every year on Memorial Day.

It’s one of the most incredible things to see so many flags being raised, each representing a soldier who fought and died for our country. To see so many people being able to celebrate there love ones is a wonderful thing. I’m so proud to have been able to be a part of that for so many years.

Since I won’t be in Oklahoma to be with them, I plan on trying to find a Memorial Day Parade, either in the city or in Brooklyn. But most likely I’ll try and get to a beach somewhere to soak up the sun, depending on if I can find spf 100+ … hahaha

The King Collective team welcomes, Carly and Lena

The King Collective is not only excited for the many new projects and events we have planned this summer but because get to welcome two new interns to our team!

Hey my name is Carly and I am a junior at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. I am very excited to start my internship at The King Collective this summer and be a part of their team down town here in Chelsea. I am very eager to partake in all the special events that are coming up soon like “Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis” and many more!

This weekend, before beginning my internship, I will be going down the New Jersey Shore to spend time with friends and family. Since I just came back from a semester in Italy, I cannot wait to lie out on the beach and play games on the boardwalk (as corny as that sounds). Memorial Day Weekend is the start to a fabulous summer, so make sure you plan accordingly!

Hi all! My name is Lena. I just graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. I’m super excited to join the team at The King Collective this summer. I look forward to playing a part in The King’s mission to make their clients and what they do stand out excellently and fabulously. Fashion, beauty, art and the branding thereof fascinate me and I’m thrilled to learn much more about it in the next months.

Hoping the weather will turn out more favorably than expected, I’m looking forward to spending my Memorial Weekend with friends at the beach.

Welcome to the team girls! We are excited to have you on board.

A mother is the one who has your back

Even if at times you’re wrong

One who holds you, comforts you

Lifts you up, the one who’s always strong

You’ve been my rock, my truest friend, my greatest sense of calm

So on this day, I’d like to say, I’d be lost without you Mom.

-Happy Mother’s Day
